For the past 20 years Scott has held a personal commitment
to the development of youth soccer. His philosophy includes the progressive
development of an individual's skills with emphasis towards positive reinforcement
as a teaching tool. Further, he familiarizes players with the various playing
styles and imparts the laws of the game and the implicit requirement to
abide by the referees' decisions at all times.
He's been involved in organized soccer as a player since 1973. He was also
a licensed referee. He began his professional playing career in 1981, playing
on the Phoenix Inferno farm team and Phoenix Pride reserve team, both of
the MISL. He went on to play professionally either indoor or outdoor for
the Louisville Thunder, Dallas Americans, Columbus Capitals, and the Ft.
Wayne Flames. Scott has professionally coached for area select clubs since
1985. Most of the teams through the years have competed in the North Dallas
Chamber Classic League, formerly known as the Coca-Cola Classic League,
one of the most competitive leagues in the country. In addition, he's been
an instructor for Techniques Soccer Camps and Dallas Sidekicks Camps. Scott
is a member of the United States Coaches Association as well as an NTSSA
Staff Coach. He currently holds a Texas "D" State license, USSF "Y" National
Youth License and a USSF "A" National license.
Scott has operated Scott Kerlin's Soccer Unlimited since 1985 and his highly
interactive camp program since 1988. He also conducts unique Private Tutoring,
Rent-A-Coach services, and Skills Clinics for area youths in the sport of
soccer.
Scott founded the American Eagles Soccer Club (AESC) in July of 1990. The
club has grown to over 500 players and is one of the largest clubs in Tarrant
County. As Director of Coaches for the AESC, he ensures that the highest
quality program possible is offered to its participants. His duties include
the scouting and recruiting of qualified coaches; creating coaching sessions
to evaluate prospective coaches; attending coaching conferences; acting
as a liaison for the coaching staff and the AESC Board of Directors and
is an active member of the AESC Board of Directors. He evaluates coaches
under actual game situations; meets with all coaches for bi-monthly meetings
for purposes of discussing old and new strategies to ensure the most creative
and effective means for training; recommends players to the Olympic Development
Program, state and district teams; establishes standards of behavior for
the club; sets curriculum for style of play and theory, as well as overall
guidelines for team and club achievements.
Scott has also conducted many hours of community service for area recreational
associations, holding open coaches' clinics. He also produced Scott Kerlin's
Basic Soccer Skills Video at the request of the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce
and Colleyville Recreational Soccer Association in conjunction with Motorola
Corporation.
